Gesenia invites everyone to experience her landmark CD, which is undoubtedly just the beginning of what’s to come. A powerful voice like Gesenia’s is impossible to ignore and is certain to make an indelible impression on all who listen.
Gesenia’s music has been described as a soulful fusion of the traditional with the contemporary. Sensitive, exciting, and emotional, with lots of swing and full of energy, Gesenia’s vocals are reverent to traditional salsa such as La Lupe, and incorporates the passionate feel of modern salsa such as Mark Anthony.
Gesenia is the youngest of 4 children, raised by her mother, Nina, in the salsa-rich neighborhood of Mascher Street in North Philadelphia. At the early age of 14, her oldest sister, Marilyn, overheard her singing alone in her room. Some encouragement from her sibling was all that was needed to convince Gesenia that she would be a Superstar!
Gesenia started honing her skills by focusing her strong vocals on soulful vocal artists such as Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston, but it was when she turned her talents towards the challenging salsa music of Jose Alberto “El Canario” and Celia Cruz that her passion for music exploded. Gesenia embarked on her musical journey by recording a demo in Spanish, and landing gigs at coveted Philadelphia hot spots such as The Felton, Club Quesqueya, Chrome Nightclub and other various venues. These experiences gave Gesenia the opportunity to mature as a vocalist, and prepared her for the exciting break she was about to earn.
Gesenia flew to Puerto Rico where she recorded her debut album “Mi Sueño” (My Dream) with the help of legendary producers Maximo Torres (Mark Anthony, Tito Rojas, La India) and Willie Sotelo (Frankie Ruiz, Roberto Roena). This opened the door for her to participate in the “Congreso Mundal Del La Salsa” show in Puerto Rico. It was there that she opened for her favorite singer Jose Alberto “El Canario”.
Salsa with a R&B sound.
